High throughput distribution centers and parcel hubs face many challenges
when trying to achieve optimal operations.
One of the biggest challenges is detecting packages that are next to each other causing a “side-by-side” misread situation. If not caught, one of the two packages will be shipped to the wrong location. In a fast-paced, overnight parcel delivery environment, this is completely unacceptable. And, in the distribution environment, one of the two package will be shipped to the wrong store potentially losing out on a sale and ending up with an unsatisfied customer.
Given the complexity of side-by-side (SBS) package detection, Accu-Sort approached this problem in a thorough and exhaustive manner. When determining if a side-by-side situation has been detected many factors must be considered. The variations in side-by-side conditions include: different package sizes, package spacing, shrink wrapping, bottled items, damaged boxes, package offset, package graphics, irregularly shaped packages, etc. All create unique challenges to side-by-side package detection.
Unlike other systems that only use one method to detect SBS packages, Accu-Sort’s careful approach uses three methods, quickly reducing the potential for costly mistakes.
